Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse (Author) I don't often read a book more than once, but Siddhartha is one that keeps bringing me back. In fact, I haven't read it for a couple of years, so maybe it's time....
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Author), Constance Garnett (Translator) This was the first Dostoyevsky book that I'd read, and it definitely made me want to read more. The Brothers Karamozov is even better, but Crime and Punishment is a fantastic read too.

I think "The Bet" is one of the best short stories I've ever read.
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (Author), Aylmer Maude (Translator), Louise Shanks Maude (Translator) Obviously, this novel is a lot to take on, but it's a great story and many of the characters have stayed with me in the years since I read it.
Sons and Lovers by D H Lawrence (Author) For some reason, I didn't expect to like D.H. Lawrence. This book completely change my mind. He's an amazing psychological writer.
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne (Author) A classic story and a surprisingly easy read, considering how long ago this was written. |
