She was educated at St. Mary's Hall in Burlington, New Jersey, and in New York City. In 1864 she married Sidney Harris of New York. Her first novel, Rutledge (New York, 1860) was published anonymously. Her other works include The Sutherlands (1862), Louie's Last Term at St. Mary's (1863), Frank Warrington (1871), Richard Vandermark (1871), Roundhearts, and other Stories (1871), A Perfect Adonis (1880), Missy (1882) and Dear Feast of Lent (1883).
