J., brother of Livingston Farrand. He graduated from Princeton (A. B., 1892; Ph.D., 1896). Afterwards he held various positions at a number of institutions of higher learning, including Wesleyan University, Leland Stanford Junior University, Cornell, and Yale. Professor Farrand made contributions to historical publications, and he wrote:
